If the material status is shown to be available, it means that the item
has not been checked out and should be on the shelf. However, this
status does not exclude the possibility that someone is using it
in the Library. The users may find the materials according to the
location and call number. Library materials are shelved according
to the location and call number on the spine of the materials. The
call number on the book spine matches the one found on the Library
Catalogue. The call number arrangement as follows:
 |
The
first line consists of a combination of letters and numbers. The
number may be a whole number or a decimal number. A library item
is arranged first by alphabetical order, and then the item with
a smaller number is placed before the one with a larger number.
The second and the third line (if applicable) is also a combination
of letters and numbers. It is arranged first by alphabetical order,
and then by the decimal number.
The final line of the call number usually indicates the publication
date, volume number, copy number and other information such as
supplement. |
