1. Reading in the Library
 
  1.1
Teachers, students and staff of Macao Polytechnic Institute (MPI) and individuals with valid library cards are entitled to enter and use the facilities of the Library.

  1.2
The opening hours of the Library are determined in accordance with the needs of the schools of MPI.

  1.3
The Circulation Counter will be closed 15 minutes before the Library closes.

  1.4
Library patrons can use books, magazines, or newspapers held in the Library, and should leave the books either on the desk or in the trolley after reading.

  1.5
Books and other library items that the Library holds must not be mutilated or defaced.

  1.6
Handbags, backpacks or other non-educative items cannot be brought into the Library and should be placed at the Library's entrance. The Library staff is authorized to check the belongings of patrons when necessary before they exit the Library.

  1.7
The Library cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage of personal belongings.

  1.8
Library users should observe the following rules at all times in the Library:
a) Smoking, drinking and eating are prohibited in the Library.
b) Library patrons should not make noise or act in any way that may disturb other people in the Library.
c) Personal pagers and mobile phones must be and remain turned off in the Library at all times.
d) No games in any form are allowed in the library.
e) No library items shall be taken out from the Library until they have been properly checked out at the Circulation Counter. Any infringement of this clause may be considered a theft.

  1.9
Groups that intend to visit the Library should apply in advance and clearly explain the purpose.

2. Borrowing Regulations
 
  2.1
According to the current regulations, MPI teachers, staff and students can borrow books from the Library with valid library cards. For those who are not members of MPI, a deposit is required before the borrowing privileges can be granted.

  2.2
The following materials cannot be taken out from the Library:
  • Reference materials, including dictionaries, encyclopedias, etc;
  • Magazines, newspapers and periodicals;
  • Rare, extra binding or traditional thread binding books;
  • Special items, such as teachers' books, textbooks or answer books.
  2.3
Books can only be checked out from the Library after having been registered and cataloged.

  2.4
A patron must show the library card to the library staff when borrowing and returning loan items.

  2.5
Loan items should be returned to the Library before or on the due date.

  2.6
If a patron fails to observe Article 2.5, he/she will be fined until the overdue items are returned to the Circulation Counter.

  2.7
If an Article 2.5 violator fails to return the borrowed items after three recalls from the Library, it will be assumed that the overdue items have been lost. The violator・s library borrowing privileges will then be suspended. For students or external patrons, the full price of the book will be taken out from the deposits; for the teachers or staff, their cases will be reported to the MPI Board of Management.

  2.8
Loan items cannot be lent to a third party.

  2.9
All loans are subject to the recall by the Library for inventory management purposes. Recalled items must be returned to the Library on the specified date. During the period of inventory management, the Circulation Services of the Library will be temporarily closed.

3. Responsibilities of Library Patrons
 
  3.1
The Library patrons should immediately report to the Library staff any defects of or damage to a library items.

  3.2
Patrons should treasure the books. No writing or graffiti is allowed in or on the books or on the paper that is placed above the books. Do not fold the pages, illustrations and graphs of books or damage books in any way.

  3.3
For lost and damaged library items, the borrower is responsible for paying the full value of the replacement including the postage.

  3.4
Any thefts of library materials will be reported to the Board of Management and to the police if necessary.

  3.5
Patrons can recommend new books or multimedia materials by submitting the request forms that are provided by the Library. The Library will consider the requests according to the need and the development of the Library.

  3.6
While using the Library photocopying services, patrons should be alert to any violation of the copyright laws. Patrons are fully responsible of any legal consequences. Copying multimedia data is prohibited.

  3.7
All photocopies from the Library resources should solely be used for academic and research purposes, and cannot be used for reprinting, publications, and sales.

  3.8
Only the Library・s multimedia materials can be used in the Multimedia Room. Use of other multimedia materials must be approved by the Librarian.

  3.9
The Library can refuse to serve those who have a history of damaging the interests of the Library.

4. Borrowing the Library Space
 
  4.1
Those who intend to borrow the library spaces must apply to the Library for permission and clearly explain the purposes.

5. Others
 
  5.1
The Schools of MPI may borrow books for research purposes by submitting a :special loaning; request in written form. The Library will consider these requests individually.

  5.2
Violators of the Library Regulations are subject to penalties by the MPI Library.

  5.3
Details of the many issues can be found in the MPI Library Handbook, including application qualifications for reading cards and borrowing cards, patron・s rights, loan quotas, loan periods, and the overdue fines.

  5.4
The Library Regulations could be revised in view of the Library・s developmental requirements. All revisions are subject to approval by the MPI Board of Management.
